Digital Flash Cards

Privacy Policy  ·  Last updated: June 2025

Digital Flash Cards is built on one core principle: your data stays on your device. No personal information is collected, stored, or transmitted to any external server by the developer.

This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and how your data is handled.

block What We Do Not Collect

  • No accounts or sign-ups are required or offered
  • No names, email addresses, or personal identifiers are collected
  • No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking of any kind
  • No advertising networks or third-party tracking SDKs are integrated
  • No data is ever sold, shared, or disclosed to any third party
  • No crash reports are automatically uploaded to external services

storage Local Storage

All app data — including your decks, cards, scores, streaks, XP, history, and settings — is stored locally on your device using standard platform storage (SharedPreferences and local file storage). This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export a backup.

Backup files (.dfcbk) are created only on your request and saved to a location you choose. The developer has no access to these files. Restoring a backup replaces your local data with the backup contents entirely on-device.

security Device Permissions

The following permissions may be requested depending on the features you use:

photo_camera
Camera & Photo Library
Used to attach images to flashcard fronts or backs and to add sketch layers. Images are stored locally inside the app and are never uploaded or transmitted.
folder_open
Storage & Files
Used to save and restore .dfcbk backup files, import decks, and export content. The app only reads or writes files you explicitly select or approve.
wifi
Local Network (Wi-Fi) Peer Controller
The Peer Controller feature lets a second phone running the app act as a wireless remote during a session. Discovery uses mDNS on your local network and communication uses a PIN-authenticated WebSocket tunnel. No internet connection is used — all traffic stays within your local Wi-Fi network and is never sent to any external server.
bluetooth
Bluetooth & Hardware Input Remote Control
The app listens for key events from Bluetooth HID devices such as presentation clickers and projector remotes. No data is read from or written to paired devices — only button press signals are received to advance or navigate cards.
volume_up
Audio
Used to play in-app sound effects (correct, wrong, review) and optional background music. The app does not access your microphone.

You can revoke any permission at any time in your device's Settings app. Revoking a permission disables the associated feature but will not affect your stored decks or data.

hub Third-Party Services

The app uses open-source Flutter packages that operate entirely on-device and do not collect data on behalf of the developer. The only outbound network calls the app may make are:

  • Google Fonts — Font assets may be loaded from Google's CDN on first launch. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Peer Controller (local network only) — WebSocket traffic between two devices on your own Wi-Fi network. No external server is involved.

desktop_windows Secondary Display

On desktop, the app can mirror the active session to a secondary monitor window. This feature works entirely within the same device using inter-process communication. No network connection or external service is involved.

child_care Children's Privacy

This app does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected at all, this app is safe for use in educational settings for all ages.

update Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated to reflect new app features or legal requirements. When updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the app after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Significant changes will be noted in app update release notes.
